A brand-name corporation wanted to include its company values intentionally as a motivator in its performance and development reviews. Internally it was intended to strengthen the sense of community in the company. Externally, in their customer relations, the goal was to enhance the company´s image. I was invited as a consultant and moderator to work with the top-management team to transfer their set of values into behavioral guidelines and to develop a concrete implementation plan.
Strategies for Evolvement
Based on the corporate strategy and the current annual targets, it was defined how the company values could best be implemented. In the future, each employee should receive an individual value assessment in his or her performance review. For this purpose, we discussed which behavior could represent which qualitative company values. Opportunities and risks were weighed up. It was particularly important to distinguish between “ok” behavior, underperformance and overperformance. A goal agreement and preparation sheets rounded off the implementation plan for managers and employees.
